We start in retro Shinsekai, under the Tsutenkaku tower, then board the city's last surviving streetcar and ride it through old backstreets down to Sumiyoshi Taisha, one of Japan's oldest and most important shrines, with its famous steep arched bridge. It is the older, quieter, more spiritual side of the city, the part locals come from rather than the part on the postcards.
It is a calm, unhurried half-day built around stories: why the shrine is built the way it is, why the bridge is so steep, what the old tram says about the neighborhoods it rattles through. We meet in Shinsekai, in front of Don Quijote Shinsekai, an easy landmark right by the Tsutenkaku tower. From here we explore Shinsekai briefly, then ride the Hankai streetcar south to Sumiyoshi. After booking you'll receive the exact pin location, your guide's phone number, and a photo of the meeting spot so you can find us instantly. Start time is flexible; mornings are calmest at the shrine.

In Shinsekai, in front of Don Quijote Shinsekai, right by the Tsutenkaku tower. After you book, we send you a Google Maps link, your guide's phone number, and a photo of the meeting spot so you can't miss it. From there we ride the streetcar south together. We agree the exact start time with you when you book.
About 3.5 hours at an easy, unhurried pace. It is a gentle walk with a short streetcar ride in the middle, not a hike. There is a steep arched bridge at the shrine that is optional to climb.

No. This is a culture and history walk, not a food tour. There are snacks and small shops along the way, and your guide is happy to point you to good ones, but you buy your own. If you want a food-focused experience, see our Shinsekai Street Food Tour.
No. The short streetcar and any train fares (a few hundred yen total) are paid by you on the day. Entry to the main shrine grounds is free; some inner gardens have a small fee.
Absolutely. The tour is fully private, so as a solo guest it is just you and your guide. If you are the only one on the booking, the tour runs at a flat $165 for one person. For two guests it is $90 per person, and the per-person price drops by about 10% for each additional guest from the third on, so larger groups pay less each. The calculator shows your exact total.
No. This is a fully private tour. It is only your group, up to six guests, with your guide. You will never be grouped with strangers.
Yes. The pace is gentle and most of the route is flat. The arched bridge at the shrine is steep but optional. Please tell us about any mobility needs when you book and we will adjust.
The tour runs rain or shine. The shrine grounds are still beautiful in the rain. We only cancel for extreme weather like typhoons, in which case you receive a full refund or a free reschedule.
